The roots of Wonder Optical trace back to India in 2002 when Lanny Smith and Scott McCarell participated in building India's first nationwide telecomunication network with 60,000 km of fiber. Subsequently, Scott returned home to form Mactel Communications, a telecom installation company, while Lanny continued optical network consulting through his company, Spectrum Tuning Inc. Three years later in 2005, Mactel Communications began to expand its services to include optical equipment. Mactel contacted Spectrum Tuning as a short term consultant to add optical expertise to Mactel Communication's resume.

Short term became long term as more and larger successful optical projects were completed. The advantages of combining the central office expertise of Mactel with the optical test and integration capabilities of Spectrum were clear, so a "handshake" partnership began in 2006 to test out this new partnership.

It proved to be a winning combination. In 2007, a joint venture partnership named Wonder Optical Services was formed in Las Vegas, NV to formalize the relationship between the two companies. In May of 2008, Wonder Optical Services will be converted into Wonder Optical, LLC to solidify our presence in the industry and set a foundation on which to build upon.
